As 2015 is beginning, we encourage you to think about having ‘living more sustainable’ as your New Year’s Resolution. We have put together 10 simple ideas for you on how you can live more socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable. Make sure to let us know how you are becoming more sustainable!
Tip #1 Unplug your appliances when you are not using them. This will help you become more environmentally and economically sustainable! For more information on this, check out this article.
Tip #2 Lower your food miles by purchasing local foods and other goods. This will help you become more environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable!
Tip #3 Buy larger quantities of foods and use reusable containers to package them for daily consumption. This will prevent you from having to purchase individually wrapped foods, which will in turn help you become more economically and environmentally sustainable! Tip #4 Ride the bus or ride your bike instead of driving. This will help save you money, as well as help reduce your carbon footprint!
Tip #5 Use reusable grocery bags instead of getting plastic bags every time you go to the store. This will help you become more environmentally sustainable!
Tip #6: Volunteer in your community. This is something that you can do once a week or even just once a month that will help you become more socially sustainable!

Tip #7 Attend a cultural event. This is a great way to diversify your knowledge about other cultures! Check back on our Facebook page throughout the year for various cultural events going on in the Ames Community and on the Iowa State University Campus.
